Sunday Food and Pets Post - ❄️ Snowy and Cold Sunday ❄️

Happy Sunday Friends!

How's your weather? Winter is here in the Laurentians. It's very pretty but dang is it cold! The huskies love it, but Jack will soon be giving me those bedroom eyes in hopes I won't make him pee outside. I don't blame him!!

It's clean out the pantry, fridge and freezer week! I had some leftover blueberries that I froze last summer so I made some really delicious Blueberry Muffins. I LOVE muffins! I don't think I have a favourite though, do you?

I had bags of frozen tortillas so the other night I made a Meatless Mexican Lasagna. This lasagna is a mish-mash of ingredients that I needed to use up. One layer of roasted potato slices, lots of fried onions and tomatoes, salsa, scrambled eggs and of course, Cheddar cheese. I wasn't sure it would work but it was very good!

I gleefully discovered that I had a frozen pie crust in the deep freezer; and I had leftover Thanksgiving pumpkin pie filling, so I made another Creamy Pumpkin Pie.

I had a Butternut squash sitting in the bottom of the fridge (that I'd forgotten about!), so I made my Apple and Butternut Squash Bisque. I tried a new recipe for Dinner Rolls and they went very well with the soup!

I'm planning on using up a lot of veggies this week for some lovely soups: French Onion Soup, Carrot Soup with Orange and Ginger, Roasted Tomato Soup and Leek and Potato Soup. Alex and I are "clean-eating" for the next few weeks. Our Thanksgiving and Halloween feasts were a lot of fun but we both need a break from the sugary fatty foods for a while! What's for dinner tonight chez vous?

The heat is on now in every room. It's very cold for November, I hope that's not an omen for the next six months!! The cats all hang out together on the couch right in front of the heater. They love being toasty warm!

Marlene and Jack love being warm under their little blankets too!

Charlie though...she is a pure husky and she would live in an igloo if we let her!

Here's another gif from photos I took of Jack. He's trying to stay awake!

See you on Thursday for our art date, remember, the theme is Forest and Critters! 😊

Hi Rain, it's cold here too, and our snow has stayed on the ground. Your pets all look like they've found their comfy spots. -Jenn

Great food. You do so well.
I love seeing the pups in the snow. I miss my cats who used to do walkies. Even in the snow on the frozen pond.

If you want to send some of your cold weather my way I would be so happy. We are still at 85F! Pretty hard to wear sweaters and sweatshirts in that kind of heat. I do have a favorite muffins. Apple cinnamon is my favorite with blueberry my second. You did a grand job cleaning out your freezer and fridge. Lots of yummy looking soups there and that Mexican lasagna sounds pretty darn good too. Your critters have such personalities. But those eyes on Jack get me everytime. Also, I do not think I have even seen a husky under a blanket before! Too cute.

It does look cold but with all those fabulous soups (I love making soups too) and other yummy dishes, I know
you will be cozy and warm!
Love that GIF!
I need to do a 'frig clean out soon - vegs. to use such as mushrooms, spinach, avocados, carrots etc. I think a deep dish spinach/mushroom quiche in the making soon, and perhaps more soups for the freezer!

Stay warm dear Rain.

Hi Rain, your pets really have a great life! Lovely to see them all comfortable and snuggling up with one another. It looks VERY cold indeed. Here it is cold and frosty, but NOTHING in comparison! And all your wonderful food and those delicious muffins are making me hungry! I love all muffins, but blueberry ones are always special!Have a great, new week, keep warm! Hugs, Valerie

You have snow! We've been flirting with cold weather too, but so far no snow. Still, it's great to stay indoors and enjoy muffins and soup!

It's cold at night but warming up during the day and definitely no snow. Today will be 70 F so I may get out there and paint some more.
Your foods looked so good and what a great clean out of your freezer! I made my 6 week Raisin Bran muffins which I love. I can make as m any or as few as I want and the batter is good in the frig for 6 weeks! Check my blog as I posted the recipe or just Google Raisin Bran 6 week muffins.
Jack just cracks me up...Annie had eyes like that...."poor pitiful me" and she would shiver for added effect! LOL! What's not to love? Have a great week!

Everything looks so delicious. So much snow, my goodness. Yes, huskies love the snow and the cold. Poor little puppies under their blankets on their pillows. My goodness, you are just like me. I have pillows and blankets for both of my Bostons. And the gif is so much like Lucy. She has taken up with chattering. I need to find a way to record her. She shys away from the camera or recorder.

Brrr … it does look cold!

Great food pictures. We like blueberry low carb muffins in our house and soups are just fantastic for this time of year.

Lovely seeing your cats and dogs .. great pictures.

Enjoy the remainder of Sunday and have a good week ahead.

All the best Jan

Oh my goodness, look at all those furbabies cuddled up in blankets. And the GIF of Jack is so fun! Rain, you inspire me even with your cleaning out the pantry food ideas. I need to have a few weeks of doing that. Hey! It hadn't occurred to me that maybe I could use that for my 30-Day Minimalism Game, too!

It's cold here, as well, and we have snow on the ground. We're expecting a lot more today! UGH...winter has arrived much too early.

LOVE all that food, but love those fur babies much more. Jack is so darn cute! I want to just hug him.

Jack really has eyes designed for begging. All so sweet.

We're set to get some nasty winter weather starting later tonight and into Tuesday. You are way ahead of us in terms of snow and cold, Rain. And what great meals you made with that fridge and freezer clean out. I really like making soups and did a carrot-ginger this weekend with homemade bread and a tossed salad for our greens. This week, it will be butternut squash or bean soup and I may give biscuit making another try. The cats look so comfy on a chilly day and Jack could melt anyone with those eyes, very soulful and sleepy too.

Those soups look delicious and just right for this fridget November. We are getting wind chills of - 34c tonight. And it's only NOVEMBER !!!
Our animals all moved inside as well. We hardly see the cats in the summer, but now they are all cozying around the house. The dogs are big babies when they are beibg send out for a pee...lol
All the farm critters are in the barn at night and noone is complaining ;)
Oh I posted about the bunnies today ... when u get a chance !!!
I need some clean eating as well. We've had so many "special occasions " lately and another one coming Saturday, lil's birthday. No more birthday cake or pie after that ;)

Hi Jenn :) Yes, winter is here in Canada, but the almanac says a mild December!

Rain said...

Hi Susie :) It's definitely bundle-up-soup weather!

Rain said...

Hi Jenn :) So sorry that you miss your cats. I did see on your blog that you recently lost one. xx

Rain said...

Hi Gwen! :) So nice to hear from you! I was in NB last spring looking at houses and will be back this spring. I hope your weather isn't too cold! :)

Rain said...

Thanks Debra :) Alas is right...though I could think of a different word to use lol!

Rain said...

Hi Marsha :) How about I keep that snow and cold until after the new year then send it to you? That's about when it gets old lol...Oh I love apple cinnamon muffins too! I'm going to try to make an oatmeal bread today with my spicy apple butter. I'm trying to go GF for a few weeks to help out my digestion.

Rain said...

Hi Mary :) A quiche is another comfort food favourite, and I have loads of frozen spinach for some reason! Great idea! :)

Rain said...

Hi Valerie :) I hope it's not too cold for you so you can keep showing us your lovely walks!

Rain said...

Hi Joyce :) I take every opportunity to make Jack and internet star lol. I hope you used up your squash!!

Rain said...

Hi Leigh :) Oh yes, hibernation is the big word lately...I can't bear being cold anymore! Muffins help! ;)

Rain said...

Hi Sam :) Oh I laughed when you said that Annie would have shivered for effect ha ha ha...Jack does the same thing! I love Raisin Bran, I should make those muffins. I'm going to check out your blog thanks!!!

Rain said...

Hi Leanna :) There is so much more snow to come...it's unreal how much we get in this area of the mountains. That's cute that you blanket up the Bostons! They need to be comforted and spoiled! :) I hope you can find a way to record Lucy! I'd love to hear that!

Rain said...

Thanks Christine :) Cleaning out the frig/freezer/pantry is something I dread doing, but we accumulate too much stuff. I hope you have some great meals from your clean up!

Rain said...

Thanks Jan :) The weekend was quiet here, we had shopping to do Monday and it snowed even more overnight. The shovels came out and it's asparagus soup for dinner!!

Rain said...

Hi Becki :) Oh what a great idea for your minimalism challenge!!! I try to clean out the pantry AT LEAST once a year, though I've been more diligent the last little while, doing it every month. I've found things in there that I don't remember buying lol!

Rain said...

Hi Martha :) Hibernation begins...let's hope the cabin fever doesn't affect us too much this winter...I'm dreading it to be honest. Having the fur babies to cuddle makes it more bearable!! :)

Rain said...

Hi Tpals! :) Nice to see your comment! Jack definitely has those begging eyes and he knows how to use them!

Rain said...

Hi Dorothy :) We got that same type of weather overnight here, 3 inches of snow already and it's still going. I keep saying every year "it's too early!" but it's the same weather pattern lol...I haven't accepted it yet that's all! :) I'd like to try making biscuits too, and dumplings in soup!

Rain said...

Hi Sis :) -34 is NOT ACCEPTABLE. I really am happy to hear you have better insulation this year, my gosh it is TOO early for that kind of deep freeze. We are still dealing with crappy insulation and a landlord who doesn't especially care to do much about it. Boo. Can't wait to be the boss of my own home! I have to check out your post. Clean eating for a few weeks to prepare for the Yuletide holiday onslaught lol! :)

Rain said...

Hi Baili :) I'll be honest, the snow this time of year is very pretty and very magical...but it gets very tiresome come January and doesn't all melt until May. I could be very happy in a milder climate. The pets LOVE to be all cozy and it makes me want to cuddle up right next to them! The soups are great for this month, they really are comforting to have for dinners!

We have snow and it is very cold here also Your two dogs looks so warm and comfy under their blankets. Coco doesn't seem to like being covered up but she likes to make a nest in her quilt. Nancy

Rain said...

Hi Nancy :) I can just imagine Coco nesting in her quilt! Jack does the same, when he gets a little hot from being under the blanket, he walks in circles until the blanket makes a nest! Very cute! Stay warm!

Nancy @ Little Homestead In Boise said...

I'm making more soups this winter, love them! Babies look so cozy! Stay warm!!!

Rain said...

Thanks Nancy :) Oh it's perfect weather for soups! I'm going to try to make them more too, at least once a week for dinners. It's a great way to get nutrition and comfort! :)
