Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Leaps and Bounds. Bugs Bunny and I brainstormed our idea for my drawing this week. We were out of ideas until we bumped into February 29th, and boy does that fella have issues....with a good expensive course of therapy, he'll be just fine. π
Do you know anyone who was born on February 29th? I kind of wish I was, I like the idea of being able to say I'm just 13 years old lol! Actually I did have my birthday last week and Alex made it very special. He got me a set of pastel pencils that I've been wanting for months.
He also designed a very sweet card including my birthday dinner menu and a sweet message! I'm a lucky gal! π Oh and by the way, I've been celebrating my "39th" birthday for 14 years now!
He made me a delicious Swiss cheese fondue and baked the bread...it's shaped like a heart!!!
And to my surprise, he'd already cut up the bread on the inside. He just lifted the crusty part off and we were ready to dunk into the cheesy goodness! π
After our fondue, he made a cold Irish Coffee cocktail with a chocolate ice cream Sundae. I love Kit Kat chocolate bars, so he loaded it with those and he made a layer of whipped cream spiked with Benedictine Liqueur! Benedictine is an herbal digestif. The whole meal was delicious and so thoughtful! πππ
This is my Ostrich that I did for a charcoal class. I wanted to draw one in action, leaping and bounding, but I decided to focus on his head! I'm trying really hard to draw fur and feathers! (All of my charcoals are black and white, I don't know why my camera decides sometimes to give it a sepia tone!)
Here's my Humpback Whale leaping through the air into the sea. I really enjoyed drawing this one!
Drum Roll Please.....π΅π΅π΅π΅π΅
WE BOUGHT OUR HOME!!! Okay, to be official, our down payment has been transferred and now we are just waiting on the bank to finalize the verification and send it to our lawyer for closing! (this may go to end of March)
We found a really nice little house in Southern New Brunswick (we are in Quebec). It's one hour from the ocean and one hour from the Fundy Bay and the Hopewell Rocks. (I did it Louise!!! Near the Fundy Bay!!) π It doesn't have the land we want, it's only one acre, but it's a quiet property surrounded by 3-season cottages on a private road. No neighbours year-round! It's zoned "Unzoned and Agricultural" so we can have our chickens and goats and as many dogs as we want! We have river access for kayaking and fishing, the property below us is vacant, back in 2012 the cottage burned down (you can see the burned house in this old satellite image). In the future we will contact the owners of the land and try to buy it to add to our acreage. The area is filled with wildlife...oh Friends...I'm so dog-gone happy and grateful! I'm leaping for joy! (I think I cried for 2 straight hours after getting the news lol) Stay tuned for more updates!!! πππ

Big congrats to you and Alex so happy for you both! Love your leaps and bounds art too.
ReplyDeleteAnd happy birthday Alex’s meal is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, wonderful news on your home. I cannot tell you how happy I am for you.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the birthday wishes and love which went into your presents from Alex.
And your artwork.
My first ever library teacher was born on Februray 29. She recently died and I think would have smiled at the thought she was only 26 at the end of her very rich and full life.
Happy belated birthday. Also, congrats on finding your forever home. Keep us posted on how everything goes. When would you move?
ReplyDeleteHi Rain! First of all, let me wish you a very happy 39th plus birthday! Glad Alex made it such a special day for you. And glad that you found a nice place to move to, that's fantastic. Good luck with all the official bits and hope it will soon all go through! Love your art, the ostrich and the whale are both fantastic, as is the Bugs Bunny cartoon. Have a happy day, hugs, Valerie

ReplyDeleteHappy birthday and great crayons and Alex made everything so nice with the menu and the food delicious but the dessert is the biggest delicious. No, I don't know anyone whose birthday is on February 29th. Your bunny shows this funny scene, drawn very fun.
Beautifully drawn your bouquet and the whale.
What a beautiful property and I can imagine that you win with happiness. This is insane and I'm excited when you live there! That was a great birthday gift for you. I'm happy for you!
Hugs Elke
Rain and Alex I am SO happy for you! You both deserve it and also happy belated birthday! What a lovely birthday dinner! I can't wait to hear and see more about your wilderness paradise!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, and happy land acquisition as well!! Is there a house there already, or will you be building something? Can't wait to hear the details! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS on your new home in New Brunswick! Sounds terrific -- I hope you'll be very happy there! And what a wonderful birthday celebration -- you two are so romantic! It's lovely to see.
ReplyDeleteSuch great news in this post, Rain, a wonderful birthday celebration and the best news of all that you finally have your “new” home. What a wonderful way to start a new birthday year! Your birthday dinner looked so wonderful and was obviously made with lots of ❤️ Thanks for sharing in photos and that drink with Kit Kat bars looked amazing. Your art was wonderful too and I really look forward to Bugs every week.
ReplyDeleteOmigosh! It has finally happened. And so early in the house hunting season, too. You'll have all summer to move and get settled in. I can only imagine how thrilled you both are to be starting this new phase of your lives together. (Happy dance, happy dance!) Also sending very happy, happy belated birthday wishes to you. What a fantastic year this will be for you!
ReplyDeleteRain,
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you and Alex. Maybe this will be our year to following you along the same path. We'll see. ;) I love your illustration of Bugs MD with the calendar day. You have such a great sense of humor. lol Alex treated you extra special for your birthday. How sweet and belated birthday wishes to you, dearie! Thanks for hosting the fun and have fun with the whole moving process!
Rain,
ReplyDeleteI meant to tell you the reason your sketches photograph with a sepia tone is because of the ambient light. I find that it helps to place my sketches under a light helps to off-set that effect and you can always change the exposure in a photo-editing program, too. ;)
I am so happy for you, Rain. We all know how much you wanted this and now you have found a home you love. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteMy granddaughters was supposed to have been born yesterday, but it did not happen. It just might happen on the 29th.
Congratulations!!! That's quite a change for you.
ReplyDeleteGreat sketches.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Wow! I'm thrilled with this news about finding your new home dear Rain! It all sounds perfect for you and Alex (such an accomplished cook AND a true romantic - he's amazing!). Belated Happy Birthday - this is beginning to sound like your best year ever, so happy for you.

Happy birthday and congratulations on buying your house! Blessings all around. Aloha from Hawaii.
ReplyDeleteeveryone is so excited about you finding your home. but not as excited as you two must be. i like how there is acreage buffering you from the main road. i really hope you can get that additional property too. it is going to be so exciting to see what you do with this place! i can't wait to follow your journey!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and Happy Belated Birthday!!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous that you have such a wonderful romantically inclined husband. He's so thoughtful and caring. Lucky girl.
Happy Happy Happy day to find your place. It looks darn good. Of course I love your art and the food so yummy. Have a fabulous day.
ReplyDeleteOh! I'm so happy for you guys that you found a home with so many good things to love. A belated happy birthday to you. And hats off to Alex for a wonderful meal. How on earth, I wonder, did he manage to cut up the bread, leaving the top crust intact??? I think he needs to do this again, and you videotape it. ;^)
ReplyDeleteThrilling news, so happy for you! You can do a lot with an acre. Great art too!!!
ReplyDeleteWell Happy 39th, my friend and lucky you are to have a soulmate that throws you such a lavish BD party. I hope you have many more 39th BDs and I will look forward to seeing how he will top this party in the future :)
ReplyDeleteYour drawings are striking and amazing that you can just whip something up that looks so real. Your hair and feathers look like ... well, hair and feathers, Ha! Sounds easy, but I know full well that it isn't.
And your new home ... like you, I love nature and the closer I can get to it, the happier I am. I see this kind of happiness in your wonderful new place. Home is where the heart is, so they say, and I can see you finding great happiness and a new place to bloom. Congratulations, Rain ... you both deserve the best and are blessed to have it.

Happy Birthday, Rain. Alex did a wonderful job. What a wonderful honey bunny, he is. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteSOOOOO happy for you. Congrats on the new home!!!!!!! Best Birthday gift, EVER!
ReplyDeletewow, loved your psot today, and congrats to 39th birthday and a very loving husband :)
ReplyDeleteI loved your leap art, a gret one. I also enjoyed reading the other coments :)
Have a great week both of you.
Hooray! All the new places for the pups to explore. And no snowmobilers as an added bonus. So happy for you.
ReplyDeleteDarn, lost my comment. Here we go again...Bugs is wonderful! My favorite drawing is your whale. I can feel the movement in that one, but your ostrich depiction is stellar as well. Congrats on a new home. We should have moved from ours years ago, it’s bigger than we need now. But we’ve been here 40+ years and moving feels too daunting. May you have many happy years in yours!
ReplyDeleteOh my! That is one lovely card and that heart-shaped bread & fondue are just so adorable. I really wouldn't mind eating your place if the opportunity comes. Your meals always sounds delicious! Happy belated 39 birthday!
ReplyDeleteAnd have a lovely day.
I just can't tell you how pleased I am for you, Rain! Such wonderful news and such a great gift for your birthday! A great way to start the first year in this new decade! ❤❤❤
ReplyDeleteCongratulations for your birthday and new home ♥️
ReplyDeleteLove your bird painting π
Happy PPF π
Happy weekend Rain, luv your peompt and all your art shared
ReplyDelete(✿◠‿◠)
much love...
happy birthday to you dear Rain!!! And what a grand assortment of birthday gifts you have received! You've got a loving and attentive hubby for sure with that special meal and card- I love it.What a delicious dinner- oh, and I love kit kats too even though I haven't had one in ages. Those pastel pencils are going to be fun to make art with and I can't wait to see what you do- your drawings are so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAnd then to get the fabulous news that you have your new home-wow, that is awesome! It looks and sounds like a heavenly place to move to- so close to the water <3. My dream is to be by the water too- but in a bit of a warmer place;). Happy PPF, and have a super weekend!
Congrats on your new home! Wishing you all the best! Love your ostrich drawing!!
ReplyDeleteYour drawings are wonderful, just love the first cartoon. You asked about the Coloursoft pencils by Derwent, I do like them a lot and they put down colour very easily. There is a new set which I have called Lighfast (oil based) and they are wonderful as well. Hope this helps. Anesha x
ReplyDeleteOh Rain, that's absolutely fantastic news!!! Congratulations! It looks perfect, and there's a lot you can do with an acre. And who knows, sometime down the road one of the neighboring properties may become available.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, your photos, food and drawings look good. I'm impressed with Alex's sense of culinary excellence!
Looking forward to your new home owner adventures!
Congratulations Rain! Happy birthday and Happy home find. After we purchased our little farm of 8 acres, two years later we had the opportunity to purchase the neighboring property, so we are now 25 acres, so keep that in mind. That acre will give you a beautiful garden, and plant some fruit trees, and of course, chickens and critters abound! Good buy, for sure!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting ~ your new home sounds wonderful ~ what a gift (I'll be it, a paid one) but it is still a gift to find the house you desire ~ Congrats ^_^
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome ostrich sketch!
Happy Moments to You,

HURRAH, YIPEE! I'm dancing about in delight at the news of your new home. Lots of happy times ahead. (And your man is a keeper - heart shaped bread, I'm very impressed!)
ReplyDelete Thanks everyone so much for your sweet comments, birthday wishes and congratulations on our home buying! It's really a dream come true.
ReplyDeleteI have SO much to do...to answer your question Marsha, our lease here ends in June so we'll be moving before then.
And Jenn, yes, there is a nice 4-season cottage on the property so we won't have to build!
Thanks Cathy for the ambient light advice, I hope this is your year to find your new home too!
Becki, Alex sliced the bottom off, then carefully sliced around the edged of the top heart crust and put it all back that way! :) I may just make a video because we'll be having fondue in a few weeks! :)
And thanks Anesha for the response regarding the pencils!
OMG can't wait to see more about it - and it sounds heavenly. I have a blogger friend that use to live near Fundy Bay and built an absolute amazing house but then they sold it a few years back and moved. I'm excited for you. Alex is quite a guy - what a special birthday dinner planned for you. happy birthday by the way...
ReplyDeletelove the art!
I feel sorry for the little calendar guy! π
ReplyDeleteBut that Fondue of Love sounds fabulous.
Congratulations on your new home!!! Pictures soon?
hELLO Rain! I clicked on Valerie's link to here as I'd read about her art dates with you. My first time here. Belated Happy Birthday wishes for you, what a wonderful dinner and present you received! And huge congrats on finding your new home and property. Y'all must be thrilled! Well, if you agree to know me, then you will know a Leapling! I was born Feb. 29, 1956 (and on my maternal grandfather's birthday, too, as he was also a Leapling how cool is that?). I finally had my Sweet 16th on Saturday aka 64 years old. 16 sounds better! hahaha I actually know a handful of others in my town who also share my birthday. Anyway, don't know as I would recommend it to anyone. You don't get as many REAL birthdays and you tend to get forgotten unless you toot your own horn, but I've been stuck with it so shall wear it proudly. :-_) You are a very talented artist and I have enjoyed looking at your creations. Thanks! XOX, Aimeslee Paper-Paisleys.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteHappy you found a house! Best wishes.
